This is the first Matamoras Library built for that expressed purpose.  In the early
1930's, Matamoras was furnished with a permanent library by the WPA.  It stood at
the northeast corner of Second and Broadway.  The librarian was Gwendolyn Green
Weeter (Mrs. Samuel Edward).

In 1912, Matamoras received a grant for the first mile of paved highway of its kind
in southeastern Ohio.  It started at the telephone pole opposite the City Building and
at the pole below Grandview.

After the highway was paved, residents of Matamoras began to want paved streets.
The first paved streets were in 1913.  Old pictures, such as this 1907 photo,
show a definite need for paving.
