The brick business block on Main Street was built in 1915. The sign on the first building says "Meyer and Cochran, Shoes, Gent's Furnishings," and belonged to Ern Meyer and his brother-in-law, Gene Cochran. Next door was Rea's, who had multiple businesses at this site.

The Gautschi Building, corner of Front and Main, is on the near left. The building with the roof extending over the sidewalk is Kollman's Furniture Store.

This circa 1900 picture of Matamoras was taken from the ferry landing at Friendly, West Virginia. The boat in the water is the Matamoras Wharfboat, at the bottom of Merchant Street. The ferry landing at the left is on Main Street. At this time, the business district was along Front Street. Note the orchard at the top of the hill.

The ferry between Sistersviile, West Virginia and Fly, Ohio began about 1810. (If anyone has an exact date, please contact us.) This is a postcard printed by W.L. Knapp and McCoy Book Store of Sistersviile, and must have been printed in the 1920's, from the age of the vehicle on the ferry.
