![]() During the 1913 flood, this was a photo of Main Street, taken from the corner of Main and Second looking toward the river. From the left, the buildings are McMunn's, the telephone office,
Reinherr's Drug Store, and the Gautschi Building, which included Gautschi's dental office, and Gautschi's barber shop. They also sold ice.

![]() This photograph was taken looking toward the bend of Main Street from the corner of Main and
Third. Most of the buildings shown are still standing. Note the hitching post in front of Karcher's.
![]() There were several "town wells" in Matamoras. This was probably the best known. It was at the
top of the Main Street ferry landing. Families in the neighborhood without a well would carry water
to their homes from the town well. Thus, it became a gathering place, where people visited and exchanged news. There was a legend that anyone drinking from this well would always return to Matamoras.
