WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE

Welcome to the third grade web-site. I am happy to be working with your child and your family this year. We are a team and I welcome your input and advise about your child to make each school day as productive and successful as possible

There are certain rules we must follow in order to be the best learner we can be. These rules really apply to all the places we will  travel throughout our lives.
1. We need to look at the speaker whether the person talking is an adult or a friend.  If we look at the person talking, this promotes a relationship and allows us to listen more attentively.  Therefore, we learn more.
2. We need to accomplish many different assignments each day.  This can be done  if we stay on task and complete our work with a focused mind; even when the work seems challenging and it is difficult.
3.We also need to treat others as we want to be treated.  Being fair and respectful is a goal we all share.
4.We always need to be honest and to accept our mistakes. If we try to learn from the mistakes we do make, we don’t repeat them.

We like to have snacks every morning around 10:00 A.M. Please provide a nutritious and healthy sugar free snack each day.  Often this is the first “meal” of the day and we need to get our jump start from fruits, vegetables, dry cereal, etc.

We have homework each night. We write our homework in our homework journal.  We settle into a routine with different activities to do each night in spelling from A-B-C order to using the dictionary to locate guide words and finding syllables. Each night the children are to read for a sustained  10-15 minutes. We usually have a dily review math page do work on at night. We have the occasional science or social studies test to review for as well. The homework each night is meant to reinforce the day’s learning and should take no more than half an hour.

I hope to have the best year ever and together we should see your child’s efforts blossom into great success. Feel free to call me at school between 8:00-8:30 A.M. and 3:30-4:00 P.M.
