The ALPHA Program is designed as a result

Juvenile Court.
The project recognizes the demand for a
comprehensive community-based program to address needs of the students and their families.
Referral to the ALPHA Program is made by Juvenile Court based on the filings from
the local schools in Perry County. These filings include truancy, delinquency and
unruly charges.
The program is basically funded by the Ohio
Department of Youth Services with Teachers employed through the Perry - Hocking Education
Service Center (formerly Perry County Board of Education) and Counselor through the Perry
County Counseling Center (Six-County Inc.). Additional support is provided by the
Perry County Commissioners, other local county agencies, private individuals and local
companies who contribute goods and services to the program.
The ALPHA School is located in the former
Bearfield School, about 7 miles east of New Lexington.
Students participate in regular academic
classes, as well as group and individual counseling. Parents and other family
members are also involved in the process, the ultimate aim of which is to help the youth
make satisfactory changes and adjustments in the school and in the community.
The majority of the funding is provided by
Ohio Department of Youth Services - 510 Youth Subsidy Grant, Perry-Hocking Education
Service Center and Perry County Department of Human Services.
