United Seniors operates three vans to transport elderly residents of Athens County to and from the senior center, medical appointments, social service appointments, shopping, and other necessary trips. Routes are scheduled to specific geographical locations throughout the county on a regular basis. Individual appointments need to have at least 24 hours advance notice. Assessments are necessary prior to the first transport.

United Seniors of Athens County, Inc. offers supervised programming designed to maintain / increase independent living skills. The Program looks at the individual skill levels and develops a plan to provide goal-oriented programming. Assessments are necessary before admittance into this program.

This service includes filling out forms and making contacts for clients. The purpose is to aid the older adult in accessing necessary services in order to maintain independence, Buckeye Cards, Home Energy Assistance, Ohio Energy Credit Program, Medicare, Medicaid, Supplemental Insurance, Homestead Exemption and other assistance programs.

Southeaster Ohio Legal Services funded by the Area Agency on Aging provides legal advice to elderly Athens County residents. A written request for an appointment is required to see the attorney. Request forms are available at the Offices of United Seniors.

This program provides answers to client/ caregiver inquiries regarding services available in the community.

United Seniors will explain it's wide variety of services to persons 60 and over to encourage participation. Referrals can be made for interested persons and arrangements are made to best meet the individuals needs.

Volunteers for United Senior of Athens County call on isolated homebound persons to provide social contact and check on client's well being. Persons interested in either becoming a volunteer caller or needing contacts check should call the center and the volunteering or daily contact will be arranged.

United Seniors offers programs which instruct individuals on various topics and interests. A variety of topics are planned to try to suit the needs and wants of all clients. Such topics as cooking, crafts, self improvement, insurance, health issues, etc. are provided. Listings of the programs appear in the weekly schedule but information on any program can also be obtained by calling the United Seniors office.

Sometimes seeing a friendly face is just what is needed. The purpose of these visits is to offer social contact and to check on the well being on an individual.

United Seniors informs clients of opportunities for senior citizens by offering newsletters and daily announcements of events and programs offered at the center and throughout the county. Informational talks about the services and programs are available.

United Seniors of Athens county, provides the senior citizens of Athens County the opportunity to have health screenings through Blood Pressure Clinics held in the Athens County Senior Center on Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30and at various locations in the County, call United Senior's office for locations and schedules. Also, periodic health fairs are scheduled.

Pool, cards, chatting with friends, special events, etc. are offered programs. United Seniors offers programs, events, or opportunities for people to get together with others in their own age group to share time and enjoy life.
