As I was in the process of posting sites on the World Wide Web, a fellow student informed me that her house in Ames Township on route 550 was a resting place for fugitives.
The McDougal family history states that the family served meals in this home and then directed the escapees to the next stop. On one occasion, slave-hunters were hot on the trail of their runaways when the McDougal family safely hid them in the near-by woods.
