While researching sites in Ames Township, there were many references made to The McDougal Story by Harold O'Neal. This story contained a section referring to the underground railroad activity in Amesville. Among the references were some shallow caves in a hillside on land owned by William Donaldson, a local conductor. Although these caves collapsed early in the century, the cliff and rocks can still be seen today.
