Biosneer the Bad Scientist

"I, Biosneer, will no longer be named a bad scientist! From this day forward I will be known as Biosneer the Brilliant.
I have heard that Archimedes was getting into the bath one day when he realized the water was getting pushed out of the way. He developed his theory of why things float. That dusty old Archimedes is a rat's uncle. I have just completed an experiment that will prove his theory of flotation is wrong, and I didn't even have to take a bath to do it.
I cut two potato cubes exactly the same size. These cubes were then placed in glasses of water. These cubes should have displaced the same amount of liquid, However, one cube is floating and the other cube sank to the bottom of the glass.
Take that Archimedes!"

Try This at Home

Fill your sink with water and float a clean foam meat tray in it. Load spoons, one at a time into the tray. First put them all in one spot, to the side of the tray. Count how many spoons it took to sink the tray. Next, load the spoons all in one spot in t he center of the tray. Count them again when the tray sinks. Then put the spoons on the tray, but spread them out. How many spoons did it take to sink the tray this time?

What does this have to do with Archimedes principle?

A rat's uncle, eh?

What that bad boy didn't tell you is that he added ten teaspoons of salt to one of the glasses of water. Salt water has greater density than fresh water, so things float higher in it.
Try it yourself at home. Just ask an adult to cut the potato for you.

Archimedes Scramble

Unscramble the following words. Then unscramble the letters in the circles to find out what Archimedes is famous for saying when he discovered the theory of flotation while in the tub. Rumor has it that he was so excited he ran through the street to tell the king, forgetting to put his clothes back on.
