RE: Monthly GIS Progress Report
Commissioners:
Work continues by ILGARD on our Parcel Conversion, and Web Server Projects.
Athens City and Township coverages are almost completed. Canaan Township
is being fit for the second time and nearly done. York is also in the
final fitting stages. ILGARD has an intern from Hocking College working
now who is helping with PIN number attributes. Our new GIS web site
utilizing ArcIMS software is scheduled to be operational next month. We
have reserved "athensgis.net" "athensgis.com" and "athensgis.org" and each
address will forward to our site. ILGARD will be putting watershed data on
the web as well.
Progress continues by E911 and SEOEMS on development of an Automated
Vehicle Locator (AVL) system through the use of GPS and radio transmission
technology for Athens County.
I have completed the consultant selection procedure by selecting a firm
to design our County Engineer Addition including space for GIS offices.
I will meet again next month with the Commissioners to discuss plans for
the Addition.
Our next GIS Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for November 16, 2000
at 10:00 a.m. in the Facilities Management conference room.
I made a presentation to Dr. Tom Bolland's Ohio University Business
Operations class. They are very interested in GIS and are using a book
from ESRI - "ArcView Means Business" as part of the class assignment.
Attached are two articles describing GIS applications for combating fire
ants in Texas and computer-controlled farming.

County's future, and for your usual cooperation.
