Re: GIS Progress Report
Commissioners:
Our GIS Technical Users Committee met.
Darren continued demonstration of the new 9.2 Version of ESRI ArcView.
Our GIS Steering Committee met:
Two new GIS websites have been launched by ILGARD:
Athens City Intranet GIS and The Athens County Comprehensive Plan
(http://athenscountyplan.net ).
Darren is studying new technologies available to improve upon our
GIS ArcIMS website. This should ultimately include editing of
data across the Internet.
Ken has been doing the County digital parcel maintenance for one year.
ILGARD and the County Auditor are continuing to discuss the
possibility of doing an update to the "One-Mile Section Map"
ArcView 3.x software application developed under contract between
the Auditor and ILGARD a few years ago. Parcel data continues to be
served on the County ArcIMS website. Ben works out of the ILGARD
Facility and assists Ken in finding and correcting PIN errors.
Darren will scan the Trimble Township Maplewood Cemetery maps as
soon as he receives them from the Trustees. A pilot project with
Trimble Township has been approved by the Trustees.
Dave Simon continues to work with Facilities Management adding to the
Campus Inventory of resources such as roads, trees, memorial benches,
lights, and utility lines and improvements, including resources on the
golf course. Work continues with the City of Athens and
O.U. Ash Tree Inventory.
Bob reported that ODNR and FEMA will do a revision to the flood plain
maps. Our five feet elevation contour data will be used for the
majority of places with new maps available in about one year.
Angel Hartley is an O.U. Intern working full time in
the Planner's Office on Red Cross Shelter locations.
Hocking College is doing a GIS/GPS location of utility poles in
Nelsonville that will be used to show the probable 100 Year Flood
elevation on the poles.
New aerial photos were recently taken of Athens County as part of a
Statewide OGRIP contract with Woolpert, inc. and we should receive
the new orthophotos (same resolution as our present photos) in about
one year.
Ric reported that the City is adding new fire hydrant locations to
their existing fire hydrant data layer, as well as mapping school
districts and zoning updates.
Our next GIS Technical User's Committee meeting will be held
