Vocational Rehabilitation

Veterans who served in the military on or after 9/16/40 are eligible for vocational rehabilitation if all three of the following conditions are met:

  1. They suffered a service-connected disability, which is compensable;
  2. They were discharged under other than dishonorable conditions or are hospitalized waiting separation for disability; and
  3. The VA determines they need vocational rehabilitation to overcome an impairment to their ability to prepare for, obtain or retain employment. Their service connected disability must materially contribute to this employment handicap.

Generally, a rehabilitation program must be completed within 12 years from the date the veteran is notified of his or her eligibility for compensation.
