Materials Accepted The following materials will be accepted for recycling collection at curbside. Materials must be clean and sorted by type. The Athens County Recycling Center reserves the right to refuse any materials that cannot be recycled or which are improperly prepared for processing. It is preferred that materials be set out in paper grocery bags. Newspaper - Stacked neatly in grocery sacks. No other paper included. White Office Paper - Letterhead, copy paper, other white office paper. No paper clips; staples OK. Place in grocery sacks. Mixed Paper - Most other non-glossy colored paper. Place in grocery sacks. Magazines and Catalogs - Place in grocery sacks. IBM Cards, File Folders - Place in grocery sacks. Paperboard - Cereal boxes, cracker boxes, pop and beer cartons, etc. Remove plastic inserts. Flatten and place in paper grocery sacks or large paperboard box. Corrugated cardboard - Brown corrugated and paper grocery bags only. Must be flattened. Beverage Cans - Beer and soft drink cans, aluminum and steel. Rinse and place in paper grocery sack. Aluminum Cat Food Cans - Rinse and place in paper grocery sack. Scrap Aluminum - Aluminum foil, pie pans, and other scrap. Material must be free of food. Place in paper sacks. Tin / Steel Food Cans - Rinse, flatten, remove labels and place in paper sack. Glass - Rinse, remove caps, and separate by color (clear, brown, green, blue). Place in paper sacks. Labels need not be removed. Plastic - Number 1 & 2 plastics only. Milk jugs, pop bottles, and detergent bottles. Remove caps and rinse. Jugs may be stepped on to save space and place in paper sacks.For more information on other materials call 592-4431
