    History of AFIS

Volunteer activities promoting friendship between internationals at Ohio University and people in the Athens community have existed for several decades. AFIS was formed in 1975 to galvanize these efforts. AFIS has grown in membership and expanded its programs since then. Through our affiliation with COMSEC (the Community Section of NAFSA, Association of International Educators) AFIS stays in close contact with issues affecting international and maintains a strict code of ethics.

An Invitation to Athens Residents and U.S. Students

O.U.'s international students and their families provide an opportunity to learn first-hand about other people, countries, and cultures and to improve international relations in a very personal way. Your involvement now will affect worldwide relations in the future.

    Welcome to All Internationals!

AFIS is your link to the people of Athens. We can help you make friends with local residents and introduce you to typical activities and experiences within our community. Let us get to know you. Get to know us and the way we live.
