Below are links to lesson plans created by the teacher participants during the summer 2001 ATOMS Project. They are in PDF format and may be viewed or printed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Get the latest version of Acrobat Reader by clicking here: Acrobat Reader
Lesson 1 -- Relative Length Scales
This lesson engages students using the Charles and Ray Eames film, Powers of 10; then leads them to develop protocols by which to accrurately measure the thickness of a single page in their textbooks.
Lesson 2 -- easyScan Simulation
In this lesson students use the Demo version of easyScan STM control and analysis software to explore a preprogrammed gold sample. They will learn to use the software and to interpret and analyze the images formed by the STM.
Lesson 3 Student STM Sampling
Here students will use the easyScan STM to create images of actual graphite samples at atomic resolution.
