**The Williams Awards were named for William Pitts, William Porto and William Weidner, three founders of AAO in 1972. These prestigious awards are presented annually to speech-language pathology graduate students from Ohio universities to acknowledge outstanding academic status, excellence in clinical skills and demonstration of professionalism and dedication.

* Dr. Martha Burns has been a practicing speech language pathologist in Evanston, IL for over 30 years. She holds faculty appointments at Northwestern University and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is on the professional staff of Evanston-Northwestern University Medical School. She is the recipient of awards for clinical excellence from the American Speech Language Hearing Foundation and Evanston Hospital. She also received a publication award for a book on Right Hemisphere Dysfunction from Doody's Rating Service ad a professional vision award from St. Francis University. She is well known for her two books on treatment of adult neurological disorders. She is also the author of the Burns Brief Inventory of Communication and Cognition and numerous journal articles.
