Kara Marie Cain seen left is my first granddaughter
born in November of 1997 to my daughter and son-in-law Melissa and
Shane Cain. In August of 2003, Melissa gave birth to our first grandson,
Gage Jefferson. I have taught science and computers for several
years, now just teach computers for Athens High School, The Plains,
Ohio (outside Athens, home of the Ohio University Bobcats).
I advise the AHS Amateur Radio Club (KC8DXZ). I am
an Extra Class amateur radio operator (N8SUZ), part-time paramedic,
EMT and first aid instructor. For SEORF, I am SIG coordinator for
the Amateur Radio SIG area and The Freemasonry in Southeast Ohio
website listed below. I served as Arch Inspector for the Sixth Arch,
Royal and Select Masons of Ohio for three years.
After being a communications volunteer for three
years, in 2003, I became the Communications Director for the Great
Ohio Bicycle Adventure. GOBA is a week-long bicycle tour of 50-60
miles per day held around the third week in June. We provide communications
support to 3000 riders using amateur radio in our ambulances, SAG
wagons and staff vehicles. There are many bicycle mobile hams on
the tour also. In 2007, they will travel in the middle of western
Ohio, Celina, Van Wert, Wapakoneta, Troy and Versilles as overnight

In September of 2006, I was appointed as District Emergency Coordinator for the Ohio Section of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). This appointment is part of the ARRL field organization Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) program. I coordinate amateur radio emergency communication for the 11 counties in District 8 of southeast Ohio. More information at the District 8 website |
