Minutes of WCA meeting on April 21, 2004, 7:00 PM, Wed. evening at Timothy House.

1. Attendance: Paul Wiehl, Susan Searles, Sara Green, Ed Newman, Joan Krananski, and Linda
    Hiller.

2. Minutes from Joint Neighborhood Association Meeting on April 13th, Mayor’s Meeting on  April 12, 2004, and past WCA meeting on Feb. 18, 2004 taken by Joanie Krananski were  handed out, reviewed, and approved.

3.  Reports were given of the March and April Mayor’s meetings, and Paul recommended that
     a member of the WCA always attend and take notes.  Jenny Childers will be going in May,
     and Ed Newman will contact her to remind her in May.  On June 14th, Joanie Krananski
     volunteered to go to the Mayor’s meeting.  June 16th is our next WCA meeting.  We need
     to remind people to come to achieve better attendance.

4.  Report on the Joint Neighborhood Association Group meeting concluded that WCA will help
     collect data on the speeding on the West Side.  Gregory Broadhurst volunteered to organize
     other volunteers and to use the speed gun supplied by the Athens Police Department.  Four
     streets –Second, Central, Lancaster, and West State–are the targets for checking.

5.  For the next Joint Neighborhood Association Meeting, the group suggested two major issues
     – (1)  the accountability of the Code Enforcement Office (concerning trash, litter, rental supervision, dog problems, and         noise enforcement), and (2) the Wellhead Protection plan.
 Suggestions of a possible city-wide class-action law suit to protect our water from  contamination from impending golf course.

6.   Ed Newman talked to Andy Stone, the Director of Streets, about fixing the Shafer Street
      brick wall in late June.  Andy said that time is fine and all is go.  Now we must find a
      willing brick layer and a group of volunteers.  Robin Kelly and Barb Ernst were mentioned.

7.   Paul Wiehl described the Alden Library Readathon and at the next meeting we will be
      collecting donations to reach our ususal $75.00 money for scholarship for student worker.

8.   Houses in the neighborhood up for sale targeted for single families are 134 N. Lancaster
      and the A-frame on Pine Street.  Rentals for families are Helene Wilson’s house and Linda
      Hiller’s house on Central Avenue.
