                                RE: Monthly GIS Progress Report

Our Orthophotos Sub-committee interviewed the five short listed
firms for our orthophoto/elevation contours project. We selected
Sanborn Colorado first; a tie between BAE and Merrick second;
Ayres third; and Landata fourth.  Negotiations are ongoing with
Sanborn Colorado to make every attempt to come to terms on a
contract for our project. Our plan is to have a signed contract
by October 2, 2001.

ILGARD has completed 12 Townships on our parcel conversion
project and is working toward getting them set up on the GIS web
site.  Property splits maintenance has started and Lee Township
has been completed.

We have now planned and coordinated all utility relocations for
our GIS addition to the County Engineer's Office.  We will move
our yard gates to the newly designated locations in accordance
with the East State Street widening project.  We have discovered
through soil borings, that some poor soil conditions exist under
our site and so we have designed caisson foundations to ensure a
sturdy foundation.  Also, asbestos must be removed from the
existing facility, prior to the renovation of our existing office
phase of our project.  These items are estimated to increase our
original construction estimate by as much as $100,000.  We are
also planning to include a new larger emergency generator for the
larger facility and include it as part of th e construction bid
specifications for about $35,000.  Our current project estimate
is $1,000,000.

Our Steering Committee met:

Jack Bantle, OU Vice President for Research, Bill Arnette,
Chamber of Commerce Development Director, and Douglas Green,
Realtor were our guests.  JB and Darren made a presentation of
our web site data and mapping.  They were impressed with our work
and felt that GIS would have a large impact upon their work.

JB provided an update on our parcel conversion project.  Lee
Township is 100% up to date including all splits to date.  Work
is proceeding on Trimble and Athens Townships as well as updating
all other townships with new splits.

Our orthophoto/elevation contours project will provide data
four times as good as our present data.

Athens City has their GIS data on the Web.  They have completed
sanitary sewer and water line mapping, and are presently mapping
storm sewers.

The County Planning Office is ready to distribute the village and
rural district utility mapping data on CDs.

OU Facilities Management is continuing work on flood plain
planning data.

Our next GIS outreach effort will be with our local attorneys.

Darren is planning our next phase with the Athens City School Bus
routes and stops pilot project.

Our next Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for
November 15th at 10:00 a.m. in the ILGARD conference room.

Athens County's future.
