Our Steering Committee met:  Jeff Ueland, GIS Professor, O.U.
Geography Department attended and gave an update of the GIS
instruction program at Ohio University.  Jeff will make a
presentation to the February Technical User's Committee meeting
 
Ric Abel reported progress on a proposed contract between the
City of Athens and ILGARD for maintaining the City GIS data and
ArcIMS website.
 
Chuck Hart is beginning a GIS for his O.U. Department by using
Campus building floor plan maps and attaching attributes for
Fume Hoods, cabinets, etc., and using GPS to locate all
electrical transformers.
 
Darren presented the new ILGARD interactive Watershed Data Access
website.  Data taken in the field may be placed in the master
database through the website.  This application offers a
standardized one-stop format to maintain watershed data.
 
Darren will check with Jill to see about obtaining approval to
directly access her new Electronic Tax Card System from within
our GIS website parcel layer.
 
Ken will check to see how the Auditor's Office presents the CAMA
updates to DDTI and if ILGARD may receive the data needed for the
GIS website in the same manner.
 
Our GIS Technical User's Committee met:  The theme of the meeting
was how to create viewsheds for IntelliWave wireless internet
towers for Athens County and was presented by Dave Simon. He
summarized the process of creating viewsheds using Spatial
Analyst and then how to use that data for further analysis.
He converted the viewshed grid to a shapefile and used that to
select out house addresses which were then output to a table to
generate mailing labels. He also joined census data to block
group boundaries to plot household income within the viewshed.
 
Darren showed how DEM's could be utilized in ArcScene in
conjunction with Ortho Photos, slope grid, hillshade grid, and
various vector themes including house footprint polygons, parcel
boundaries, and line themes representing water lines and a
driveway.
 
Our next GIS Steering Committee meeting will be held
January 19, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. in the ILGARD conference room.
Our next GIS Technical User's Committee meeting will be held
December 15, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. in the ILGARD conference room.
