                               RE: Monthly GIS Progress Report
Commissioners:
 
Our Soils Layer Project is progressing.  Digitizing has been
completed and the materials and data are currently undergoing a
quality assurance review.  The quality assurance review should be
done within a month.  Editing of the tabular data is underway.
I expect it could be two months or more before that process is
complete.   JB and Darren have made copies of our elevation
contour data for distribution.  Our website is being re-designed
and additional scans are being added.  The County Engineer's
Office old road centerline surveys and property surveys were
scanned by the O.U. Cartography Center, and will be added to the
GIS website.
 
Darren is gathering a list of available data layers to be made
available to other offices as needed.  Please contact Darren at
597-1753 if you have a layer to be made part of the set.
 
Justin Goodwin has returned to Athens for a graduate degree in
land use and green space.  Justin is working for Facilities
Management and the Athens County Planning Office.  He has
implemented ESRI Desktop ArcInfo system of ArcMap, ArcCatalog,
and ArcToolbox and is continuing work on Facilities Management
GIS projects.
 
We will look into the new ESRI Survey Analysis software for
possible use as an upgrade to our parcel maintenance procedure.
This new software allows logical parcel data entry in the
original surveyors technical terms.
 
The Auditor's Office has received a new map printer.  The format
size is 16" x 22" (or any length using roll paper).  Work
continues on resolution of missing and duplicate Parcel
Identification Numbers.
 
Ron Lucas is working on resolving some line placement issues
fitting streets to the new orthophotography, and is working with
ILGARD to host a City of Athens ArcIMS website and with the
Auditor's Office to resolve certain property records.
 
Jeff Ditty is working on the Health Department data layers and is
ready to implement our new elevation contour data in to their
GIS.
 
Facility Planning continues working on their two areas of GIS
focus, land management and space management.
 
Our next GIS Steering Committee meeting will be
July 17th at 10:00 A.M., in the ILGARD conference room.
 
Thank you for allowing me to coordinate this important aspect of
Athens County's future.
