RE: Monthly GIS Progress Report
Commissioners:
A progress report from Sanborn Colorado on our
orthophoto/elevation contours project is attached.
ILGARD progress continues on our Parcel Conversion Project.
They are adding annotation to make the mapping more closely
resemble our traditional tax plat map format.
JB and Darren met with the County Recorder and Auditor and their
respective consultants and agreed to link both offices databases
together and add the resulting product to our existing Arc IMS
website. They also met with Dave McCallaster and Bob Meek and
refined the maps of the bus routes/stops pilot project.
SEOVEC added a new page to the school database to receive and
store the new data.
Tim Price is assuming the position formerly held by Jim Green in
the O.U. Geography Department Cartography Center. Jim Green
reported that the Cartography Center is scanning old plan maps
for the City of Athens. So far they have scanned 4,750
documents.
Bob reported that the County Planning Office has three grants
regarding developing flood hazard mitigation plans, and will
present their findings to ODNR at their State Conference.
Laura King is an Intern working with Bob. They report that the
parcel data is wonderful to use with the other GIS layers.
Facilities Planning is gathering easement data to be placed in a
database and is working with FEMA to develop new Hocking River
floodplain topography from the recent flights by Sanborn
Colorado. The new topo data will cover the area between the
Route 33/Columbus Road interchange and the Route 50/East State
Street interchange. Jack Pepper, Facilities Management is
continuing to gather GPS data for campus landscape areas.
John Kotowski, Facilities Planning reported that they are
developing a pilot project utilizing the Ellis Hall floor plan
and database to develop and demonstrate a visual interface for
the data. John says that GIS is very helpful to his entire
organization, as a tool unsurpassed in managing land, space,
facilities, floodplain management, FEMA and Corps of Engineer
issues, and mapping.
Jill Harris reports that countywide GIS is a great resource for
FEMA visits and disaster relief work.
Jill Thompson reports that GIS is growing exponentially in her
Department. Her staff is utilizing ArcView and is experiencing
new interest in the capabilities of GIS. Ken is using ArcView
every day and showing it's capabilities to citizens. JB wil l
get a query-builder turned on for Ken's use in sorting the data.
ODNR Natural Resources Conservation Service who is developing our
new GIS Soils Layer is on schedule for completion at the end of
this year. Our land-use and Land-cover layers are scheduled for
completion by the end of 2003 and 2004 respectively.
Our next GIS Steering Committee meeting will be held July 18,
2002 at the new ILGARD Facility conference room. The new ILGARD
facility is in the building furthest west in the line of main
buildings (Building #22). The conference room number is 214 and
is located directly across the hall as you exit the elevator on
the second floor. Some parking is available in front of the
building but technically all parking at the Ridges requires a
visitor's pass. Visitor's passes are available at ILGARD.
Thank you for allowing me to coordinate this important aspect of
Athens County's future.
