The GIS Finance Sub-committee met:
 
We discussed how to provide additional service to agencies
participating in GIS funding.  We discussed Automated Vehicle Locator
(AVL) development and how the ability to display real time location of
vehicles would be of interest to most all agencies.  This project has
been on hold because SEOEMS and Emergency Communications had to take
care of improving their 2 way radio communications first.  They were
having problems with over-crowded radio channels, so they had to
license new frequencies and put up a couple of extra receiver sites.
That project is almost complete, so they are ready to possibly turn
attention to AVL development.  I have offered partnering assistance as
County Engineer and GIS Coordinator for developing this technology in
cooperation with SEOEMS and Emergency Communications for Athens
County.  A meeting is being scheduled by SEOEMS to kick off that
discussion.
 
Ric Abel, Chairman of the Finance Sub-committee will meet with Lenny
Eliason, Commissioners' GIS contact person to discuss how the
Sub-committee has been able to meet the commissioners' request for
additional funding from GIS stakeholders.
 
The next GIS Steering Committee meeting will be held in the ILGARD
conference room at 10:00 A.M. on March 11, 2004.  This is one week
earlier than usual because of scheduled ILGARD training.
