                                 RE: Monthly GIS Progress Report
 
Commissioners:
 
Karen Adkins, our Project Manager from Sanborn Colorado, came to
Athens for a coordination meeting regarding our
orthophoto/elevation contours project.  We also met with Chuck
Canter to coordinate the ground control point work associated
with our pho to acquision flight next month, and with Tim Kern to
coordinate separate Hocking River floodplain and Hibbardsville
area work that Sanborn Colorado/Canter Surveying will do for Ohio
University.
 
The NGS "Blue-booking" GPS observations of our control points
were completed by Canter Surveying.
 
The City of Athens has agreed to an alternative driveway/parking
lot configuration for our renovation/addition project.  Our drive
will exit toward the back of our property and onto East Park
Drive, and then up East Park Drive to a new traffic light at
East State Street.
 
ILGARD is going to develop an ArcView program that will allow Ken
to add missing PIN's to our parcel dataset.  Jill is considering
several different scenarios for public access to GIS data in her
office.
 
ILGARD is planning to meet with the County Recorder and their
imaging consultant to hopefully gain access to link their deed
imaging system to the GIS data.  We would like to implement a
procedure for Julia's office to add PINs to the recorder's data
base.
 
Darren is working on edge-matching between townships and the
students are still working on the deed references.
 
Jesse is almost finished with the Athens City School pilot
project bus routing maps, so we will plan to meet with
Dave McAllister and staff next month.
 
We are planning for an ESRI consultation for assistance in
development of our ArcIMS map website.

Attached is an article on using GIS as a tool in providing
homeland security.
 
Our next GIS Steering Committee meeting will be held at the new
Wayne National Forest Building on March 21, 2002 at 10:30 a.m.
The January meeting was cancelled due to scheduling problems at
the Wayne Office.

Athens County's future.
