Commissioners:

ILGARD has received a CAMA RE 407 data CD from the Auditor's Office.
They will begin to develop a prototype website page to display the tax
card data from the Auditor's Office. The main web page data display
should be available for a demonstration within a few weeks.
The dynamic construction of the tax card floor plan maps will take
a while longer. The Auditor's Office expects to migrate their
CAMA Operating System from 2.5 to 4.0 by February 2004.

The County Engineer driveway/parking lot project (a portion of the
East State Street widening project) is nearing completion.
The "as built" elevations must be verified by Burgess and Niple, Inc.
(City of Athens Design Consulting Firm) to ensure it meets the
requirements of the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Visitor's to the Engineer's Office will enter as in the past, but have
two new handicapped accessible spaces and three regular parking spaces
to use, and will exit down and behind our Office and out the side
street (East Park Drive) and onto East State Street via a vehicle
actuated traffic signal.

Aaron Burk of The Wayne National Forest reports that they have
completed their initial Surface and Subsurface Ownership database.
They have been working on this project for nearly a year.
They recently received soils coverages from the State of Ohio DNR.
They have completed a new roads coverage for the entire Forest and
surrounding area. The Wayne GIS Team spent a lot of time over the
spring and summer producing map products to support the clean-up and
damage assessment of this past Winter's Ice Storm. The Wayne National
Forest also has an extensive Abandoned Inactive Mine Inventory
database. The current focus of the GIS Team at the Wayne National
Forest is data collection and analyses in support of the revision of
their Land Management Plan. The current Plan was completed in 1988,
and the Wayne National Forest is required to revise their Land
Management Plan every 10-15 years. The Land Management Plan guides
their projects and management activities.

Maryann Hawk of the U.S.D.A. Soil and Water Conservation Service
reports that they have received a CD for the Hocking Soils that were
digitized by ODNR and they expect the Athens data very soon. They are
editing the NASIS tables (summary text). The Farm Service Agency is
currently working on a massive scanning project. All FSA offices in
Ohio are scanning their 1988 aerial maps with historic acreage and
conservation reserve program fields identified. Athens is scheduled
to be completed in October, 2003. They just finished scoring grassland
applicants (Grassland Reserve Program) using the soils inventory and
legend feature in ArcView Toolkit for Hocking County. Maryann says
that it was much faster than the old dot counter method.

Our next GIS Steering Committee meeting will be September 18th at
10:00 A.M., in the ILGARD conference room. We expect to have a
presentation from ILGARD on our new website design.

Thank you for allowing me to coordinate this important aspect of
Athens County's future.
