Our Work
The principal activity of the Athens St. Vincent de Paul Society is the obtaining and
delivery of food to those in need. Needy families make their requests via telephone to
Careline, which then provides the information to St. Vincent de Paul volunteers.
Thanks to the generosity of the people of St. Paul and Christ the King parishes, these
calls for help are being met. Donations from the parishes help to purchase food, most
of which is purchased from the Southeastern Ohio Foodbank for 10.5 cents per pound.
Milk, bread and eggs are purchased from local merchants who give discount prices to
St. Vincent de Paul.
St. Vincent de Paul members who have trucks travel to the regional foodbank and haul
loads of supplies back to the church pantry, where the food is unloaded and shelved.
Parish volunteers make food deliveries each weekday evening. Approximately 45
people help with the delivery of food in any given month.
