From: Henry Burke > Michel, Here is a short biography of Basil (Bazeel) Norman a mulatto war veteran around Marietta from 1800 to his death in 1830. Basel Norman African-American Revolutionary War Veteran Basil Norman was mulatto born on July 12, 1760 in Frederick Co., MD He served as a private in Col. John Genby's' Regiment, of the Maryland Continetal Militia during the American Revolutionary War (circa 1777-1781). For his service he acquired some land in the Third Ward of Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. Basil married Fortune Stephens and had several children, Basil, Jr., Aquilla, James and Joseph. Basil Norman lived in and around Marietta from around 1800 until his death in 1830. His name is listed on the Mound Cemetery Revolutionary War Veterans Memorial, located at the intersection of Scammel and Fifth Streets in Marietta, Ohio. Henry R.
